Smith, who plays Lloyd, is a seasoned rodeo veteran
Tale
A Montana ranching family is faced with others encroaching on their land. Forrie J. John Dutton (Kevin Costner) seems to have “forgotten” his mountain accent and is slipping back into the SoCal speaking voice he normally uses.
This series has been around since 2018, but this is the first time I’ve seen it
Last night I finished the first episode of the first season, which is almost 90 minutes long. As for the Dutton family, we see that they have a strong influence in their valley, but are wary of “attacks.” One from developers who want to build condos. Another from the neighboring Native reservation is looking to reclaim some of their land and some animals.
To cope with all this and the vast size of his ranch, Dutton (played authentically by Kevin Costner, 60) has several grown cowboy sons and a helicopter with a dedicated pilot
The reason I watched episode one of season one (on Peacock streaming) was to get a feel for the Dutton family because I’m currently binge-watching the ten episodes of Taylor Sheridan’s latest show “1883,” which is a prequel of sorts. In 1883, fictionally, the Dutton family from Tennessee joins a larger group to take a wagon ride from Fort Worth, Texas, to “somewhere out west.” They probably stopped when they got to Montana. Again, this is all fiction, but given the ages of the men and the fact that Costner was born in 1955, his character would probably be the great-grandson, great-great-grandson of patriarch Dutton (played by Tim McGraw) in "1883".
With sons born around 1875, 1900, 1925, and the 1950s
e.g. "Yellowstone" is a very good series, the actors are all top notch, the cinematography and sound are excellent. It’s just not the kind of show I could invest myself in and keep watching.
It’s hard to find characters with redeeming qualities, and I really don’t enjoy shows that are constantly focused on bickering and fighting, and often murder, in the long run
Now, at 70, I prefer to spend my time watching “pleasant”; stories.NB – "1883" is a very good and interesting series, as it authentically depicts the great difficulty of putting down roots and traveling through unknown territories to try to find a new life in a new place.
