Lady Gaga, on the other hand, seems to have deliberately toned down her usual brightness, apparently so as not to overshadow it, which, while understandable, seems like a missed opportunity for a more dynamic performance. Musical numbers, full of energy and spectacle, easily become the highlight of the film, and singing and dancing offer moments of respite from the sluggish narration. The lack of meaningful action makes the film seem too drawn out, dragging on for more than two hours, which makes it unnecessarily long.
